I thought this was a decent and entertaining read, which made it a relaxing break from the scifi epics I've been reading lately (*cough*read The Expanse*cough*), and I was able to read it all in about a day, since I had literally nothing else to do this weekend. It has some of the typical scifi romance tropes, including a protective and possessive male alien who looks mostly human and is from a race of aliens with a shortage of women, but it used those tropes well enough that it was show more interesting and only a little bit eye roll inducing.
I would have liked it to go more in depth with the universe and expand more on all the different races, but you can't ask too much of character/relationship driven scifi romance. show less

🌟🌟🌟1/2 STARS
***This book contains the first three Dark Planet Warriors books, Invasion, Taken and Escape (which were originally released as a three-part serial) in one single volume.***
This is my review for the three parts
"Dark Planet Warriors: Invasion" by Anna Carven was a delight to re-read.
I just had a compulsion to read this again, something light, easy and fun and it certainly ticked all my boxes.
In fact, I think I enjoyed it more this time around.
So a brief description of show more this, We have Abbey a scientist working on space station "Fortuna Tau"
when they are boarded by Kordolians large, silver-skinned, pointy-eared hotty warriors.
After a serious incident leaves Abbey in a bad way There Big Bad General Tarek whisks Abbey aboard his ship to transport back to Kythia for treatment.
The grumpy General soon becomes captivated by the little human and as his own people scheme to take her away from him. Tarek vows to protect his little human mate from all that would wish her harm.
this is a lovely tale, the general beneath his gruff exterior has a heart of gold for Abbey, and I loved how Abbey was not one of these seriously stupid girls always doing the reverse of what she was told.
She was the opposite of angsty and I found this very refreshing, made such a nice change.
So if you're looking for some light reading that's guaranteed to make you smile and also get you a bit hot under the collar.
give this a go, it's definitely worth a read.

I love the Kordolians. They may be fierce and ruthless, especially the First Division, but when they find their mates, they are as protective as they are fierce. They won't let anyone hurt their mates, and following their General's example, they will wipe out worlds and destroy empires to make sure their loved ones will be safe.
Torin is a First Division warrior who is now a Darkstar Mercenary. The General has sent him out on a mission to find out who is selling Callidum. He's out with his show more partner on a out of the way space station when a large group of humans, who really shouldn't be there, walk by. There is one that he is drawn to.
Persephone, call me Seph, is a xenologist and an analyst. She's there to help her group be successful, but one of the other humans decides to literally sell her out to the people who they are dealing with.
I love how Torin isn't about to let that happen, and he's going to do whatever he has to do to make sure that Seph stays safe. Seph is a pretty awesome heroine, in my opinion, because she's just so willing to deal with whatever she to deal with. Whatever Torin does, she manages to take in stride, even if it could be terrible. She's not going to let anything stop her, except maybe herself.
I need more Kordolians. I always need more. I can't wait for the next book to come out, because they are awesome. show less

Really, I would like to give this is 4.5 instead of a 4. When will I ever be able to? Anna Carven is one of my favorite scifi romance writers. Her Dark Planet Warriors series is one that I've enjoyed reading time and again. I was really excited to see that she had a new series to read. I was not disappointed at all.
So, Calexa and her crew get stranded somewhere on the other side of the universe. She and her crew get sucked into a ship where they meet several different aliens and 2 different show more species.
Ares, a Vradhu, is one of those aliens. He's bonded with the ship and is trying to keep his people safe from their enemies, who are also on that ship. Calexa manages to fight Ares to a stand-still and then protects him from enemies.
There are all kinds of surprises in this story. People who go into this thinking that it's going to be like the DPW series are going to be disappointed. It's a completely different series and a completely different feel. The twists and surprises had me on the edge of my seat and rushing through the pages to see what's going to happen next. I love Ares and I think that Calexa is pretty awesome too. The two of them together are breath-taking and I am expecting great things from this series and to love it as much as I like DPW. show less
