Going Postal Movie in All Things Discworldian - The Guild of Pratchett Fans (November 2011)

Northanger Abbey is a little different from Austen's other novels, in that it's overtly amusing, and something of a spoof on the 'gothic' novels of the time.
This adaptation - made originally for ITV - is fairly true to the book, with realistic characters. Catherine Morland in particular (Felicity Jones) seemed very believable.
My husband watched with me and despite not having read the book, enjoyed it too. There were a couple of moments when we both laughed out loud.
Highly recommended to show more anyone who likes period dramas, or who is a fan of Jane Austen's writing.

The better of the two adaptations available. Felicity Jones is a good Catherine, not too silly, and Carey Mulligan excels as the sly but naive Isabella. J J Feild makes a charming Henry. The settings are all well-done, despite it being filmed in Ireland, and the script by Andrew Davies is good.
JJ Feild. Yes. And Felicity Jones is so darn cute. Really excellent casting for my favorite Austen!
Really young woman who's work survives into 2010. Remarkable.
