Very good for a broad overview of the topic and quite balanced in its perspective. A number of chapters make reference to "animal liberation" and are respectful of it, although dismissive, as the should be when its implications are properly understood. A few of the chapters were overly philosophically technical, but still readable.
A college biomedical ethics textbook -- mine, probably in a much earlier edition, and possibly yours as well. For those not familiar with the book: As with textbooks, it's a general overview, oriented toward people without much training in the field. If you're a beginner & it's an interest it's not bad to pick it up.
3rd edition - development of principlism, criticized as the principles having no organic relationship with one another
