I thought this book was very well put together. I enjoyed the title of the boys book “Tick-Tock”, because it added to the depth of how he had to be patient. I liked the reliability to how young children may feel left out. Each family member had a task they needed to complete, which showed them taking responsibility and they all agreed to hear a story when they were finished. A perfectly executed book about waiting your turn; my son and I read it often, after I am done with my chores of show more course. Beautifully illustrated! show less
A good example of realistic fiction because the main character is confronted with an issue that so many of us are everyday: Where can we find a comfortable, operable place to work? By reading this book, one can examine where they enjoy reading or how they could work more efficiently. After venturing through the entire house and encountering much of his family, such as trying out his sister's "throne" and his brother's bean bag chair, this little boy finds that the one perfect place to read show more is with his mom. There, he always feels comfort and love, just like so many people. The first person point of view is effective in this book, despite not knowing the little boy's name, because it reads as if the reader is living the experience the little boy is having. In a way, this point of view is more universal and personal to the reader, as we think about where we could go to read if our favorite chair is now too small for us, the kitchen table is too sticky, or grandpa's chair has a loose spring.

I liked this book for because the story encourages children to read and shows reading in a positive light. The little boy would stop at nothing to find a great place to read his book, this determination is something that all students should be encouraged to have. The big idea of this story is to never give up!
In The Best Place to Read, a young boy finally finds his love for reading, but shortly after is posed with the problem of finding the best place to begin his reading. The reader is taken through the young boy’s house as he searches for a place to read. Some places are hard to fit, already being occupied, or are too loud to read peacefully. The boy finally realizes that the best place to read has always been there-his mother’s lap. This simple picture book is a perfect book to have in an show more early elementary classroom (grades K-3). It is a great introduction to a discussion about the best and most appropriate places to get work done, including reading. It is important for students to understand where they can get their best work accomplished, and avoiding distractions is important when doing this. A mother’s lap may not be the best place for all students to read, but this book will get children thinking where the best place in their home is. show less
