A bunch of kids are transported to a haunted school and killed one by one. For literal shits and giggles.
I read through this first volume without knowing it was adapted from a videogame, and once I found that out it explained a lot of the mean-spirited treatment of the two-dimensional characters. As others have pointed out here, there is some gratuitous fan service that annoys more than titillates. The art isn't that great, with the female characters being almost indistinguishable except show more for slightly different hairstyles. The story gets a minor boost in the second volume when it twists around to briefly revisit story elements from the first volume from another angle, but I don't think it will be enough to justify me seeking out a third volume of this pointless gore and gloom. show less

The story is finally starting to get truly horrifying, and it's doing so effectively. Yes, lots of it relies on gore...but a lot of it is psychological as well, which is what I appreciate as good horror.
I've decided. I really do like Seiko.

I'm gonna be honest. I'm reading this because I watched all the Pewdiepie videos and am now incredibly interested in the Corpse Party world.
I'm not overly impressed with the art, but the story is still intriguing. Even though I think I know how most of it is going to end (because of the game), I'm still interested, which I suppose means something.
Seiko really cracks me up. But if I were to meet her in real life, I'd probably find her super annoying.

Oh the gore, oh the horror, oh the tears.
If you like that kind of stuff, this is definitely the manga for you. The gore is explored in depth, and while there is some psychological aspects, it's mostly just gore-focused horror.
The only character I really like is Satoshi, and he's not in this volume. It focuses on Ayumi, of whom I'm not overly fond. It does have Kishinuma, who is awesome, but just the fact that he has to deal with Ayumi's stupidity makes it less enjoyable.
But the ultimate plot show more twist is revealed! So that's pretty cool I guess. show less
