A wonderful outside of the box read that had me hooked. Oh Joy Sex Toy is a comic collection of reviews on sexuality, sex toys, birth control, the sex industry, and virtually anything pertaining to sexuality. It breaks down sexual orientations, reviews the pros and cons of sex toys and how to use them, gives practical advice for dating and relationships, discusses the sex industry with porn stars, pole dancers, and more. This collection is wonderfully illustrated, masterfully written, and show more has never been needed more. It is open, honest, frank, down to earth, and instructive, there is no shaming or judging about lifestyle choices or preferences. I wish I would have had this book back in the day (not that I didn't find this useful now, i'm a grown ass adult and I learned PLENTY from this!) and I hope it finds a wide audience. I don't think the second volume is out yet, but I will absolutely be reading it when it's published. This was wonderful! show less

One of my kids has been seeing sex stuff on line occasionally and it's been freaking them out a bit, so I got this for them. I figured it would be good because I really like the authors' online sex ed comics, and I was right. It's inclusive and emphasizes communication, consent, self-knowledge, and acceptance of self and others. The people depicted are diverse: all races, a wide range of weights, different amounts of body hair, disabled people (amputees, including a person with only one hand show more who doesn't use a prosthesis, wheelchair users, a pair of people who communicate using ASL, people with top surgery scars), various gender presentations, etc. Special props to the authors for including both a list for how to spot when you're in an abusive situation and when you yourself might be abusive.

I may update my review after my kid reads the book, but for now I'm pretty impressed. show less

I backed the Kickstarter for the second Drawn to Sex volume, but hadn't read the first so fixing that now! Erika Moen's Oh Joy Sex Toy is an educational webcomic staple on sex ed, sexuality, and sex toy reviews, and the Drawn to Sex volumes are collections of the educational ones in physical (or eBook) form. This first volume is basics, divided into four parts: what are the fundamentals (consent, sex positivity, etc.), how to do it safely (contraceptives), how to do it yourself (because you show more should know how your bits work before inviting others to play!), and how to do it with others. Illustrations are simple and fun, and all around inclusive because everyone deserves to have good sex, regardless of size, shape, gender, etc.!

It's very sincere (though a bit cheeky with puns at times), and I would absolutely hand this off to future spawnlets so they're armed with knowledge before getting it on. Really approachable way for basic sex ed. show less

Good information presented well, but since there are less sexy fun times and more health and hygiene facts, this is a smidge less interesting than the other books derived from the Oh Joy Sex Toy website.

Some, but not all of these strips, also appeared in the Oh Joy Sex Toy books. And while STI Testing is an important topic, it feels a little wrong to print here the same chapter that already appeared in the first volume of this series, Drawn to Sex: The Basics.
