Malicious Intent (Defend and Protect # 2) By Lynn H. Blackburn Jan 2022 LTER in Reviews of Early Reviewers Books (January 2022)
Reviews
What a spectacular start to a new series Defend and Protect. Not only do we meet a new set of law enforcement buddies, we get a glimpse of what former characters are up to. I am a sucker for stories about alphabet soup agencies, in this case FBI and Secret Service. Ms. Blackburn wowed me with the Dive Team series and she wows me again with Unknown Threat. The excitement jumps off the page and the tension is palpable. But Faith Malone and Luke Powell are focused on the killer and trying to show more deny their attraction. They each have to deal with shaky faith and family dynamics. “They were grown-ups doing grown-up work in a grown-up world. They knew how evil the world was, and they didn’t hide from it. They ran straight for it.”
I cannot wait for the rest of the series. A definite 5 stars with a solid faith thread.

One of the greatest book discoveries for me in 2020 was the Dive Team investigations series by Lynn Blackburn. I found them thanks to other book reviewers on Instagram and I am so glad I gave them a chance. How did I miss these when they released? They are the epitome of everything I love about the genre of romantic suspense. All of them are full of swoonworthy heroes who repeatedly save the day, but not because the heroines are weak and need rescuing. It is quite the opposite actually. All show more of the women are smart and independent, but find themselves in some pretty precarious situations. I like that each of the three couples relationships develop throughout the book. Instant relationships would just not be believable given the characters backgrounds and nail-biting situations going on in each story. It's not surprising that my favorite part of the series by far was the page-turning suspense! Each book hooked me from the beginning and I found myself totally surprised at the end! I really don't think I could pick a favorite hero, heroine, or book in the series. I loved them all!
The blessing in disguise with finding this series late was I got to binge read the entire series so there was no waiting in between!
Note: The novella, Unseen Enemy, is available to the author's newsletter subscribers and is a connector between this series and the first book in her new series which releases this spring. Can't wait! show less

Last to Fall: A Clean Small Town Military Romantic Suspense with a Second Chance Romance Pulse-Pounding Action (Gossamer Falls) by Lynn H. Blackburn
Wow! What a stunning conclusion to a favorite series! Last to Fall had me hanging on every word. I’ve been dying to learn the history between Bronwyn & Mo, & I Ioved watching their childhood-sweethearts turned enemies romance finally become second-chance love. Lynn H. Blackburn delivers achingly beautiful romance, thrilling suspense, delightful humor, & sweet faith in this fantastic finale.
As children, Mo & Bronwyn were inseparable, caught in the middle of the bitter Pierce–Quinn feud. show more As teens, friendship bloomed into love until one fateful day. Now enemies, Bronwyn must set aside her feelings when financial discrepancies threaten her exclusive resort. She’s poured her heart & soul into The Haven, determined to prove herself to her demanding family. Mo’s the only one with the expertise to uncover the truth, but working together means reopening old wounds she’s tried to bury.
Mo Quinn never got over Bronwyn. He still loves her, but painful memories keep him guarded. When she asks for help, he can’t refuse, especially when her life is threatened. The blackmail scheme he uncovers could destroy Bronwyn & The Haven unless he proves her innocence. As the danger escalates, he risks not only his life, but his heart.
I adored this story! I loved how the author wove past & present together, unraveling Bronwyn & Mo’s complicated history. They’ve danced around each other all series long, & the reasons are finally revealed. Watching the gruff recluse find love & happiness after everyone else has found theirs was so satisfying. The simmering attraction, the crumbling walls, & sizzling kisses… perfection.
The mystery kept me glued to the pages. Every time I expected a respite from the danger, another suspenseful twist hit. Bronwyn’s family is absolutely cutthroat, & my heart ached for her. I especially loved how Mo’s family embraced her as their own. The delightful humor added the perfect lighthearted touch—cornflake ice cream?!
Highly recommend this amazing book & series! While I’m so sad to see the series end, I look forward to the next adventure. I received an advanced copy from the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily. show less

Break My Fall: (A Small Town Romantic Suspense Novel with Family Drama and Second Chances) by Lynn H. Blackburn
How far will you go to do the right thing when everyone else looks the other way?
Lynn H. Blackburn’s Break My Fall delivers a story so gripping, I could practically hear the whir of a dental drill and the static of a police radio in the background. Dr. Meredith Quinn’s bighearted (and bullheaded) mission to serve the underserved is a force of nature all its own, but when she helps the helpless, she becomes a target. Enter Police Chief Grayson Ward—stone-faced, battle-worn, and doing show more his best to pretend his heart isn’t on the line.
This book gave me everything I wanted and more—high stakes, deep faith, and a love story that hits like a two-ton truck. Meredith, with her undeniable compassion and that streak of stubbornness a mile wide, is exactly the kind of heroine I love to root for. Gray? Oh, Gray. The man’s got walls higher than the Blue Ridge Mountains, but when it comes to Meredith, every last one of them is bound to crumble. And let me tell you, the process is spectacular.
The faith thread? Unshakable. Gray’s struggle to align his will with God’s hit deep: “He’d thought his plans were in line with God’s will for his life. But were they? Or had he made plans and then assumed God was on board?” That question doesn’t just shape the story—it’s one of those soul-searchers that lingers long after the last page.
Blackburn keeps the tension so tight, you might need a night guard to keep from grinding your teeth. But in between the danger and antics, there’s romance, humor, warmth, and a reminder that forgiveness doesn’t erase consequences, but it does set us free.
Gossamer Falls has me hooked, and Break My Fall just cemented my permanent residency.
Highly, highly recommend—just don’t blame me when you’re up way past bedtime reading ‘one more chapter.’
