This set and the Anchor Bible Dictionary are the 2 most used today by scholars. What little I have used of this, it has been extremely beneficial. Anybody wishing to go deeper and study the Word needs to have a good set of Bible dictionaries or encyclopedias. This set is invaluable. I will use it for years and years to come.
This updated version of the conservative origianal is moderate to liberal in it's theology. Here are articles and ideas not available in other literature.
