Pleasant, undemanding fluff. Not particularly plausible even as fluff goes, but the main characters are relatively sympathetic and the background (about cuban casinos) is interesting. Definitely in a chick-lit vein (there are a pair of Manolos in it that get more characterization than some of the humans).
This was a fun murder mystery, centered in Miami and focused around Cuban-Americans. Cuba and the US have 'normalized' their relationship, but it is still interesting to read stories set before this very recent change, to see how our past restrictions on interactions with Cuba impacted the refuges from Cuba who live here in the US. I also appreciated how the sleuth, Lupe, is a modern woman working in a 'male' field, and dealing with her very conservative family.
An interesting looking into Cuban-American's nostalgia and affection for Cuba even though they only know it from the memories of their parents. A nice mystery and and interesting protagonist.
This book was extremely interesting. The reader gets a full dose of Cuban culture while being inticed by staggering murder mystery. This book grabs your attention and never lets go, with unexpected twists and attempted murders. Who said that the Sugar Kane business was boring?
