“Twinkle Little Star” is an interactive picturebook that contains the traditional nursery rhyme “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. The poem encapsulates the idea of natural curiosity, as it explains the wonder of what a star is through its rhyming melody. The pictures in this specific copy, by Tina Macnaughton, include softly illustrated animals curiously looking up into the night sky, illuminated by the moon. This adds to the overall soft essence the poem presents. The traditional poem show more uses a simile to compare stars in the night sky to a diamond. This use of figurative language allows children to visual and enhance their comprehension.
An interesting feature of this book is that a button lights up twinkling stars on the cover and plays the melody of the traditional nursery rhyme. This is a great way to encourage young children to participate in poetry because they can sing along while simultaneously getting a visual representation of the poem’s elements.
I think this is a cute book that is very interactive. It could be used as a great lullaby story, as well as a good introduction to poetry for young kids! show less

This one overplayed its hand a bit--had me at "my daddy and me" but then lost me a bit with the saccharine followup.*
*(Or am I mixing it up with "I Love My Daddy"? I confuse.)

Simply stunning (especially when given to a curmudgeonly dad by a teen-age daughter!). Beautiful art, moving text.
