This interesting This First Discovery book introduces young readers to ladybugs. They can discover the ladybug’s dual set of wings, explore the pattern of a ladybug’s spots, and learn about the ladybug’s habits. They can watch a ladybug lay eggs and see them hatch into larvae thanks to a unique transparent page that allows readers to peek “inside” to make new discoveries.

Following the exploration of the ladybug and its habitat, several other related insects are briefly introduced show more and a short quiz [find the five animals in the picture that are not insects] ends the book. Although young readers will enjoy the transparent pages that animate the insect development and habitat of the ladybug, adults will need to help young readers with the text in this read-with-an-adult First Discovery book.

Recommended.

These little "First Discovery Books" are so wonderful. I love the clear overleafs on the detailed bright pictures. Even though these are for very little children, I think of these little books as miniature works of art.
Shiny pages with interspersed transparent pages that have drawings on them that change the pages they cover. I'm not sure that was as clear as the pages; anyway, it's nifty. The book teachers a lot about colors.
Title: The Tree
Author: Scholastic
Book review by: Elle Brackett

This is the first book about trees that I have ever read that I have found interesting. The illustrations and layout of the book leave me wanting more information and more of the book. It uses a transparency technique to show the process that trees go though.

It leaves room for children to form their own inferences and then they lift the transparent page and the answer is revealed by picture and text. This book discusses many show more different types of trees and how they change. It not only teaches the viewer about trees but also different animals that make homes in the certain types of trees.

Finally the book teaches the readers about the leaves on the trees, and how they are all different and no leaf is alike. And how some leaves have seeds inside them. This book left me with other questions which would be great to find the answers and then record them in a journal.
