- Catherine was born in a village on the Welsh-English border, where the public library featured largely in her life. Her mother, who looked upon literature as a basic necessity of life, fervently encouraged Catherine's passion for reading, little knowing it would one day motivate her daughter into writing her first novel.
At 18, Catherine met a future Engineer, who had set in a pendant a gold sovereign, that his grandmother put in his hand when he was born, and Catherine has never taken it off since. After their marriage he swept her off to Brazil, where he worked as Chief Engineer of a large gold-mining operation in the mountains of Minas Gerais, a setting which later provided a very popular background for several of Catherine's early novels. Nine happy years passed there before the question of their small son's education decided their return to Britain. Not long afterward a daughter was born, and for a time Catherine lived a fulfilled life as a wife and mother who always made time to read, especially in the bath!
Her husband's job took him abroad again, to Portugal, West Africa, and various countries of the Middle East, but this time she stayed home with the family. And spent a lot of lonely evenings in between the reunions when her husband came home on leave. "Instead of reading other people's novels all the time," he suggested one day, "why not have a shot at writing one yourself?" So Catherine did.
But first she took a creative writing course. Encouraged by the other students' enthusiasm for her contributions, she decided to try her hand at romance, and read countless Mills & Boon novels as research before writing one herself. Her first novel was accepted in 1982, which Romantic Times voted best of its genre for that year, along with more than sixty written since.
These days son and daughter have fled the nest, but they return with loving regularity to where Catherine and her husband (back for good from his travels) live, with Prince, the most recent Labrador, in a house built at the end of Victoria's reign in four acres of garden on the cliffs between the beautiful Wye Valley and the River Severn. - Nationality

A decent old HP. He was an opera tenor and she was a girl who didn't care much at all for music. It was fairly well written. One thing that makes a good older HP is if I don't skip ahead to the end. This one kept my interest and kept me reading straight through. The characters were well developed. This wasn't one where the hero is an asshat and the heroine is wimpy. They get together and he asks her to marry him. She says no, but when he leaves, she realizes she's made a mistake and wishes show more she could have a do over but alas, she must suffer until the end of the book. show less
Honestly this book had me in two minds! The sister of the h was a mercenary selfish cow, who used her sister to get a child that so was not hers! Like who does that? The sister dying in books is sad but damn did she deserve to die, which is so callous but apt!
And the h I guess I can blame youth for her choices at 20 but I was 20 four years ago and I wouldn't have made the choices she did, which were incredibly self serving! The H I actually Pitied which is rare for a Presents novel but he show more seemed to be the one having his heart stomped on! show less

This was a Christmas anthology of romance stories by three authors I have not read before - Carole Mortimer, Jane Porter and Catherine George. All three books kept my attention from the beginning although they were quite different in their setting and storylines. The stories all centered around Christmas, had some tears, laughter, lots of conflict and angst especially amongst those falling in love. One Christmas Night in Venice was heartbreaking show more with its separation by death story but was so realistic in its telling and evolution that you had to root for Diane and Dom to heal, rekindle their love and become a family once again. All had a happy ending but took some time to get there. Both One Christmas Night in Venice and Snowbound with the Millionaire were very vivid in their descriptions. You felt as if you were in Venice in the one and the countryside of England in the other. Although I have not read any of these authors before I will definitely add them to my to be read pile and hope I enjoy their other books as well as the ones in this anthology.
Favorite Quotes:
The Billionaire's Christmas Gift by Carole Mortimer
Not only was Nick the man who gave her a pulse-racing and heady thrill just being in his presence, who gave her pleasure just in looking at him, who filled her with tingling arousal just at a touch, but he was also the man she wanted as her best friend, her lover, and her husband.
One Christmas Night in Venice by Jane Porter
Heavens. He'd noticed that, too. What didn't he see? Curling her nails into her palms, she forced herself to meet his gaze. "It's been five years since we've been together. I'm still getting used to the idea that you're alive. For five years all I wanted was to see you again, and now we're having a meal together. Definitely surreal."
Snowbound with the Millionaire by Catherine George
...They walked on, sinking ankle-deep on the paths leading down to lawns blanketed with snow. "The man who lived here lavished far more care on the gardens than the house. Too much for my taste. I prefer a wilder, more natural look. There'll be a marvelous show of snowdrops on the terrace soon, and later on the beds and the walled garden will be full of daffodils. Then great swathes of bluebells arrive in May." He shot a look at her. "You must come back and see them." show less
