Anita Loos, b.1888 (maybe 1893). She wrote the novel, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. By 1921 she was writing movie scenarios in Hollywood and earning $100,000 a year.
One review of Carey's biog of Loos calls the writing "lackluster and tedious." I would concur. How is it possible not to get this woman's personality onto the page--but Carey manages. Also, Carey may know the facts of Loos's life, but he doesn't show much knowledge or interest in the period--which is a crime.
A positive: the book is show more filled with wonderful photos.
A big negative: no notes, no bibliography, no index. show less
