I've always had trouble with "Wuthering Heights", and the Carol Burnett skit put the nail in the coffin of the work's classic status. But even pre-Burnett, when I was taking a course on the English Novel that required reading the the book, I thought it pretty light-weight. Later in life I was married to a woman of Yorkshire antecedents, and understood the behaviour better, if not the reasoning? behind it.
Not my pot of tea and the mystery of what Heathcliff did was never very compelling to show more me. Mr. Caine has given us his take on Heathcliff in America. I liked this movie a lot for it's political statement and the fact that it was filmed on location in Kibera, a large slum area in Nairobi, and used locals for some of the walk-ons.
