3052 Man of the Century:The Life and Times of Pope John Paul II, by Jonathan Kwitny (read 14 Feb 1998) The author is a journalist, not a 'writer'. Much of the book says good things about the Pope, but the author is a liberal and so he obviously objects to the Pope's position on some things. This was a long book, and I cannot say I enjoyed parts of it--parts pointing out the Church's problems. These are perilous times religiously, and if one weren't sure the gates of hell will not prevail show more against her, one would be quite pessimistic. show less

1518 Vicious Circles: The Mafia in the Marketplace, by Jonathan Kwitny (read 23 May 1979) I read this because it tells about the IBP case, and my law partner is mentioned several times in the book. The book is poorly organized, but what it tells is very disturbing. So many crooks, and so hard to fight.

I read this book because I worked for Daitch - Shpwell in the 60's when Moe Steinman was the ruling power. I knew and or knew of many of the people depicted and was once hit by Lombardi ( Steinman's driver/bodyguard) who was later shot and killed.
