I think this is intended to make kids that don't wanna eat think eating is fun by seeing a bunch of other kids with food on their faces making eating-is-fun faces but kids aren't fuckin' stupid.
Photographs of smiling babies adorn the pages of this brilliant concept book. The text is a short rhyme with a soothing cadence which may comfort the listener. The rhyme spans the entire book so that each page contains only four words or less, which makes it readable to even the most impatient early readers. Each page is a photograph of a different baby in front of a black backdrop, highlighting the smiling baby. The text is white and the pages have pastel borders, adding a pop of color and show more brightness to the relatively dark pages. Real-life photos of smiling babies of both genders and various races capture the reader’s attention immediately. For young readers and adults alike the book functions as a mirror; readers will find it impossible not to ‘Smile!’ while reading this small, but durable book. show less
My daughter was obsessed with this book for months! She would even pick it up when she was feeling sleepy before naps all by herself. It has cute, high-quality, big pictures of sleepy babies. The words are simple and have a nice cadence. Our daughter knows them by heart and she recognizes them if we say them even when the book isn't out. She first started reading it at about seven months and loves it still at eleven months, though she picks it out less often. She just loves looking at the show more other babies, and has a real emotional reaction to their little faces. This series of board books is the best for pictures of babies, and this particular book is the best of the lot. Perfect for bedtime! show less
This board book will appeal to both very young children and the adults who read to them. The adults will fall in love with the photographs of babies, and the children being read to will enjoy seeing realistic images of babies like them. Not only that, the babies pictured are all smiles, obviously having a good time. The pictures and words encourage conversation—“Splashing is fun, you like to splash in the bath, too, don’t you?”—and interaction. The words have a rhythm that children show more will find comfortable, much like a nursery rhyme. It is a familiar setting with familiar faces—and is even multiethnic. show less
