"Photographs of adorable babies (is there any other kind?) of varying ethnicities appear in both full-page and panel insets to a very brief (one sentence), vaguely patriotic text. With just one phrase per spread, there's little to distract from the main attractions. One overall-clad lad sits in a field of golden grain, another tyke crawls across the sand ("from sea to shining sea"), a little girl intently scans a board book and yet another smiles coyly over her mother's shoulder. The show more dark-skinned, utterly toothless boy crowing with delight ("spreading joy") is worth the price of admission all by himself. As babies never seem to grow tired of looking at other babies, this glowing celebration seems to be a surefire hit. A portion of the proceeds benefits The Global Fund for Children. (Board book. 0-1)" www.kirkusreviews.com show less
Beautiful pictures of babies from all over the world. Great one to recognize that babies from all over are beautiful. Also the story is very simple and perfect to actually read to a baby since they like looking at pictures of other babies and the text is so little that it doesn't distract them.
As an adult I lvoed this, pictures of babies from many differnt cultures, wearing different traditional baby outfits. But the pictures were too busy for by boys eye, he didn't notice that they were pictures of babies at all.
Global Babies, a captivating book for babies and young children, shows that while babies from around the world may look different, they all share certain characteristics. The text is simple enough (one continuous sentence throughout the book with one to three words per page) so as to keep babies from getting impatient. The vividly detailed photographs on each page of the book (which show babies from around the world dressed in traditional clothing) are sure to capture and hold the attention show more of babies, who enjoy looking at pictures of their peers. Additionally, the details in the photographs provide adults/older children with a means by which to teach babies and younger children about body parts, pieces of clothing, and facial expressions. Looking at the book can also facilitate bonding between adults/older children and babies/younger children as they explore the images together, searching for and identifying details. The sturdy pages of this board book are user-friendly, allowing for the wear and tear that comes with heavy use, while enabling babies to gain practice in turning book pages on their own. show less
