An utterly magnificent little volume. Lancaster showing his complete distaste for the 20th century bureaucracy running our councils. Welcome to the fictitious town of Drayneflete, and the family that has owned it for nigh on a thousand years, and the use, and misuse of power therein...
My only complaint about this book is that it doesn't have nearly enough cartoons that its title warrants. This is a mere taste of the thousands of "pocket cartoons" Lancaster did for the Daily Express over the years, and even with the long passage of time, they're quite enjoyable.
The finest cartoonist of the 20th century. NOBODY captured the century in the way that Lancaster did with his finest creation - Maudie Littlehampton. Probably more informative than any number of 'serious' histories.
Funny take on the crusades and the first in the Littlehampton series that culminates in Drayneflete Revealed.
