Short biography
Karen Anders was a bibliophile at a young age. While other children were dragging around well-worn and well-loved blankets and teddy bears, Karen was dragging around books. In all shapes, sizes and colors, they were her constant companions. It’s no wonder that she is now writing her own books.

Karen read her first romance novel, The Princess Bride by William Goldman, in high school. After reading about Buttercup and her love, Karen was hooked, and moved on to The Sheik, a well-worn copy that was given to her by her Valentino-loving grandmother. These books opened up the world of true love to Karen, bringing with it all the excitement, joy and heartache contained in the human heart. Karen found out that romance writers know how to make love grow.

Coming from the conservative state of Vermont, it surprised Karen that she loved creating hot, sexy heroes, and the strong women who tame them. But beneath all that conservatism beat the heart of a true rebel! Karen has escaped to culturally diverse Northern Virginia and is doing her best to raise two daughters, each a rebel in their own right. Between her roles as an administrative assistant for a university dean and single working mother, it’s an adventure for Karen to find time to get in a few hours of writing amidst the mundane chores and reigning chaos of everyday life.

Karen asks readers to hook themselves to her bandwagon and hopes they enjoy reading her stories as much as she enjoys writing them. But she suggests you don’t drag them around—it’s murder on the covers.

Her first romance novel, Jennifer's Outlaw, was published in 1997 and obtained the HOLT (Honoring Outstanding Literary Talent) Medallion.

A terrific book that had me hooked from the very beginning. The action started with a bang as a young woman is attacked and left for dead, and her infant son kidnapped. The victim's sister, Emma, is a PI and determined to find her nephew and bring him home. She doesn't expect to find a mysterious and sexy NCIS agent already on the case.

The first meeting between Derrick and Emma set the stage for their relationship. Both are accustomed to doing what is necessary without having to consult with show more someone else. There is also an undeniable zing of attraction between them that promises to complicate matters. Derrick is especially resistant to working with Emma because once before he had gotten involved during a mission and the consequences still haunt him. However, each has a different set of skills vital to the mission, so they have to figure out how to make it work. Their early interactions show Derrick's fear that Emma will be more of a hindrance than a help, and Emma's determination to prove otherwise. I loved the way that Emma quickly proved her worth and made a place for herself at his side. The chemistry between them awakens unexpectedly strong feelings between them.

I ached for Derrick, whose past mistakes still haunt him. Emma's missing nephew brings his pain back to the surface and makes this case more personal than he is comfortable with. His growing feelings for Emma also bring out an unexpected protectiveness in him that causes some conflict between them. I loved that he was honest about his desire for her, but he feared that his past has made him unable to have a permanent relationship. This was especially obvious at the end when he walked away before realizing that he needed to fight for what he wanted.

Emma has her own issues to work through. She has spent her life being very protective of her sister. It goes a little too far at some point, creating a rift between them. Her growing relationship with Derrick opens her eyes to the need for her to control things in her life. I loved her big moment at the end as she followed her heart.

The suspense of the story was intense and nearly non-stop. It was an emotional roller coaster as Derrick and Emma would get close to their objective, only to see it slip away, and have it happen several times. Though the culprit is unknown at the beginning, finding out who it is doesn't make things any easier. As the risks escalate, injury or death is a definite possibility. I was glued to the book as I watched Derrick and Emma survive ambushes, a desert escape, and betrayal. There were several twists at the end that increased the intensity until all was successfully concluded.

Good suspense and romance. Skylar is a brilliant scientist who has been kidnapped by those who want to use her intelligence for their own ends. Vin is the NCIS agent sent to find and rescue her. Though he saves her from immediate danger, he knows that those who took her will try again. When another attempt nearly succeeds, the only way to protect her is to take her into hiding while the rest of the team tries to discover who is behind it.

The cabin is isolated and the perfect place to hide show more out, but it is difficult also. Sky has made her work the focus of her life. She was kidnapped as a child and her parents gave their lives to rescue her and get her to safety. Since that time, her work has been her way of honoring their sacrifice. Because she was so focused on her education (college at ten, PhD by seventeen) and work, she never developed a social life. Her first impression of Vin blows her away with his good looks and determination to protect her. But as much as she is attracted to him, she can't let herself be distracted. Vin also puts a lot of himself into his work, but for him it is his way of being true to himself. He has never allowed a woman to distract him from his duty, but something about Sky has him in turmoil.

I loved seeing the development of their relationship. Vin can't believe the way that Sky has shut herself off completely from living a full life. He does everything he can to show her what she has been missing. I especially loved the fishing scene. Sky really starts to get into all the new experiences but the things she starts to feel also scare her. She realizes that she is falling in love with him, but believes that love has no place in her life. Vin had been hurt before by a woman who didn't understand that what he does is a huge part of who he is. Since then he has kept tight control over his feelings, but Sky blows that control to pieces. He wants them to pursue the feelings and see where they go, but Sky can't let go of what she sees as her responsibility. I ached for them both as their differing attitudes ripped them apart. Those same attitudes ended up undergoing some changes as the other's influence opened their eyes to their own misconceptions. I loved the ending and seeing how they came together.

The suspense of the story was good. It started out with some intense action as they fought off the kidnappers. It then backed off a bit as they went into hiding, and the action became more mental than physical. There were some spots where we get the bad guys' point of view, and an idea of just how intent they are on getting to Sky. The action picked up again at the end, as Sky and Vin are captured and must find a way to stop the bad guy. Sky's brains and Vin's skills combine to create an unforgettable solution.

Joint Engagement by Karen Anders
Book #3: To Protect and Serve Series
Source: Author
My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:

Is there anything hotter than a southern man with battle scars, tattoos, a deep knowledge of weapons and, an accent?? The answer is an absolute and resounding, NO!! Beau Jerrott, is all kinds of hot and sexy and when he is called in to work a case with Kinley Cooper, everything he knows about life and love is called into question.

Kinley Cooper is damn good at her job and with the show more exception of one stupid, stupid mistake she has had a flawless career. As a member of the coast guard, Kinley is tasked with protecting the nation’s coasts and that is just what she intends to do the morning she discovers a large ship adrift near her home. Normally, Kinley would never board a vessel without back-up but she is sure she heard gun shots and smaller vessel fleeing the scene. What Kinley discovers when she boards the ship is a nightmare: bodies everywhere, the ex-Coast Guard ship has been stripped of its identifiers and, a mystery that is going to test Kinley beyond anything she ever imagined and help bring down the man responsible for her father’s murder.

The minute Beau sees Kinley Cooper he knows he is in trouble. As Beau freely admits, redheads are his kryptonite and when you factor in Kinley’s intelligence and clear capability well, Beau is really done for from the first encounter. Within just a few days, Beau and Kinley have discovered that their case is far more far-reaching than they ever could have imagined. In fact, the case takes Kinley and Beau to the Bahamas and while they should be enjoying some time in paradise, they find themselves up to their necks in danger. Before all is said in done, the two face a determined and very angry cartel, a group of terrorists and a, passion that takes both completely by storm. Kinley is beyond frightened of making another and possibly career-ending mistake and Beau is terrified of once again entrusting his heart to another woman but, the stakes are high and when the adrenaline is pumping, it is hard to resist one another. Through all the drama and life-threatening moments, Kinley and Beau both figure out they simply can’t be without the other.

The Bottom Line: BAH!!! I loves me a good southern man and Beau Jerrott totally fits the bill. He is kind, competent, sexy and totally in love with his woman. Kinley Cooper, though initially quite afraid to become involved with a colleague knows Beau Jerrott is a different sort of man. Kinley needs a man who can accept her as she is, a woman who is capable of standing on her own two feet but is also vulnerable at times and needs someone she can absolutely rely on. Thanks to one nasty break-up, Beau is determined to never love again but even Superman buckles when faced with kryptonite and Beau falls head over heels for Kinley. As if he needed to be talked up any further, Beau is confident enough in who he is to trust Kinley both professionally and personally. Though he desperately wants to protect her, he allows her to be who she is and supports her 100%. As with the previous book in this series, Anders gives you everything you could want in a read: action, drama, some excellent naughty bits and, an HEA that almost isn’t but is so sweet when it finally is.

Kid Chaos by Zoe Dawson
Book #2: SEAL Team Alpha Series
Source: ARC from author and purchase
My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:

They don’t call him Kid Chaos for nothing!! He’s the youngest member of SEAL Team Alpha and Ashe Wilder certainly lives up to his call name. He is all wild energy, adrenaline junkie, badass with a mouth that sometimes just doesn’t know when to stop running. He works hard, proudly defends his country, and loves fiercely. The only real problem in Kid’s life is finding show more a woman who can love him as fiercely and loyally as he loves her. After two failed relationships, Kid has decided it may just not be in the cards for him.

Paige Sinclair isn’t interested in anything beyond her career. Since her mother left, when Paige was just a kid, Paige has become accustomed to hard work. She took over the raising of her brothers and caring for their home and then it became all about her career. Nose to the grindstone, a work ethic that is largely unmatched, and an iron will has led Paige to La Paz, Bolivia and on the trail of thieves will nothing but bad intentions. Two servicemen are dead and a cache of weapons are missing, and Paige is determined to see justice done. She’s two weeks into her undercover gig when Ashe Wilder walks into her life.

Ashe is sex on two legs and for the first time in as long as she can remember, Paige is interested. Though he’s in La Paz on vacation, Ashe is always a SEAL and always aware of his surroundings. Paige is certainly someone he is aware of and within the span of a day and a half, Ashe is also aware of brewing trouble. When Paige shows up in a place she shouldn’t be, the cards are placed on the table and suddenly a solo undercover mission becomes a duet with Ashe’s team made aware of his situation. When Paige begins to disclose all details of her mission, Ashe knows they are up against nearly insurmountable odds which is just where he excels! Though his call name is Kid Chaos, Kid knows how to handle himself in a bad situation and he uses his brand of crazy to his advantage. Additionally, as Paige begins to open up and trust Kid, she becomes important to him and jeopardizing her safety and/or life just isn’t an option.

The Bottom Line: By and large, I enjoyed every minute of this read and it had everything to do with Kid Chaos!! From the moment he opened his mouth in book one, Ruckus, I was #teamkid There’s very little that brings Kid down and he lives his life as if every day is his last day. He doesn’t pursue the extreme sports for the adrenaline rush, but for the experience and he is fiercely loyal. Paige taps into everything in Kid that is wild and chaotic and speaks to his soul. Paige brings a newfound strength to Kid’s life and proves to Kid that when you find the right person love and devotion are totally worth the risk. Oh, and if there’s some crazy extreme, someone’s trying to kill you business going on, all the better 😊
