Charmingly illustrated how-to encyclopedia filled with all kinds of useful information, which the author has gleaned on his own travels. Most subjects are covered in a “secrets of the east” style that matches well with the information, which draws heavily on many Asian traditions. The author falters when giving philosophical advice, which is disguised as a leaden, strict verse narrative and serves to distract and confuse more than to summarize the advice. A pretty interesting book. A compendium of all sorts of information, from sailing to martial arts to acupuncture. There is something special about the book that keeps drawing you back- I'm especially drawn to the mysterious vaguely Eastern tone, and the idea that you are entering a world of adventure just by learning these bits and pieces of info. Recommended for eclectic readers.

It's a silly book on many levels but it's like a magnet. I reference it all the time for all sots of things.
