I would recommend it for ages 8-12. At the beginning the author states he could not find a flaw in Lee’s character and the book is written accordingly.
Two boys were camping on the beach. Their names were Josh Ladd and Tank Catlett. They woke up and a helicopter landed. The pilot told them to get on. A hurricane was coming. The weather reports said it will miss Hawaii. It changed direction and the helicopter came to warn everyone. Josh had to find his dad who was with Dr. Nakamura looking for an extinct bird.
Meanwhile, Tiffany, and Josh’s mother were on another part of the island in Dr. Nakamura’s house. They were preparing for the show more storm. When the violent storm hit, the roof from a neighbor’s house, crashed into the Nakamura’s house. After the storm they were rescued and transferred to a hospital.
Josh seeked shelter in a cave and waited until the storm was over. He found Dr. Nakamura in the cave. After the storm he went looking for his dad. He found his dad pinned under a tree. He was hurt but alive. Josh helped free his dad. The helicopter came back. Josh and his dad were reunited with his mom.
I enjoyed reading the book. I liked it a lot. I found it very interesting. I am glad I picked it. It was a good survival story. I had fun reading it. It is a good book for kids. show less
