A collection of chapter-long true stories about mostly (all?) military pilots and their adventures. I picked up my copy on a family trip to England at age 10 (c. 1974), and must have read it cover-to-cover a half-dozen times. Some pieces--on the careers of Albert Ball and Douglas Bader, and a chapter on the bombing of the Ruhr dams called "The Greatest Raid of All"--still stick with me three decades (and some) later.
