I was drawn to this book by the book cover first and the summary second. Now, this is how you start off a new series. This book was so easy to read. It was smooth. A bonus as I was reading this book on my computer. I found myself not wanting to step away and keep reading.
Darby is my kind of woman. A strong, intelligent woman. Oh, who just happens to be a sharp shooter. So don't mess with her. The author did a great job of making sure that Darby was not painted as a victim but a fighter. show more While, I did appreciate the romance between Darby and Jack; I kind of wished that there was no romance. Darby was coming out of a violent relationship only to fall into Jack's arms (predicable). Yet, the few intimate scenes in the story were very brief like PG. I look forward to checking out the next book in this series. show less

I really enjoyed the first book in this series by this author. So, I was looking forward to reading this book. I struggled a lot to fully embrace this book. Not that I hated the book, I just did not jump with joy as I did the first one.
However, Chasyn was great. I liked her take charge attitude. Plus, she had a sarcastic side. Thus, she is my type of woman. In fact, when Declan and Chasyn first met, she bowled him over. Which, speaking of Declan, when he walks into a room, he fills it up. show more This is due to his big presence. He is also the type to take charge. Together, Chasyn and Declan made a nice pair.
The reason I struggled is due to the beginning. While, the story started out with a bang, I did not find it as exciting as the latter part of the story. Luckily, Chasyn and Declan's personalities helped. Also, I have to say that they can sizzle together. While, this book may not have been a favorite of mine, I still like this author. show less

I found Emma to be a good female lead. She is strong, smart, and likable. Even when she was being threatened, Emma was never truly afraid. In fact, she had spunk about her. Which I liked a lot. In regards to Connor, who doesn't love a good strong man that is easy on the eyes. Emma keeps Connor on his toes. Yet, when it came to the romance, it was "fine". It was not earth shattering or fog up your glasses type of hot but Connor and Emma did have sparks. The scenes were quick and short. As if show more the author did not want the romance between Emma and Connor to get too much in the way of the overall story. A quick read. I did enjoy this book but not as much as the first one. show less
Poor Darby enters quickly into a marriage, and it turns out to be nightmare. When she finds out she is pregnant, she has to get away. But, Sean, her husband won't let go easily. Her ally in the battle for freedom in the attorney she hired, Jack.
I felt a little uncomfortable with the romance between Darby and Jack because, hello, she was embroiled in a hot mess of a marriage. I felt it was a bit rushed and made me think Darby is a bit naive. I also felt that her plan left something to be show more desired. I mean, there were some holes you could drive a truck through. Seriously, how did she and Jack not realize that? Again, I'm left thinking Darby is too naive to live.
The end felt a bit obvious to me. It was satisfying and everything is wrapped up in a nice little bow, but with a story like this, I didn't expect such a nice, neat ending. The story had such potential in the beginning, but it fell flat for me. show less
