I have long been an admirer of the graphic work of John Coulthart. He is often at his best when he employs his admirable ability to convey the complex and the intricate to the illustration of weird literature. He is a master, for example, of Lovecraftian imagery.

This is very much the case in this re-telling of the classic 'The Call of Cthulhu', originally written by H P Lovecraft in 1926 and graphically presented by Coulthart for the collection 'The Starry Wisdom' which appeared in 1994. show more

Perhaps I have a minor criticism of the readability of some of the script where style has won over substance but the style is exquisite. The whole is a masterpiece of intrepretation, capturing the essence of the story as it would have been understood in its day.
