Wacky, original, totally unique, and very funny. This might be the quirkiest book ever written with all of the characters sporting a unique headpiece like a bus, swimming pool, tree, or cabin head. As a graphic novel with short chapters and crayon-like illustrations, this one is very difficult to resist.

Scott Campbell's "Cabin Head and Tree Head" is an absolute delight! This wonderfully wacky graphic novel introduces readers to an unforgettable world where everyone has something unique on their head - and the result is pure magic.

The friendship between Cabin Head and Tree Head feels instantly classic. Their adventures - from treasure hunting without maps to dealing with bad leafcuts - capture the essence of childhood imagination and friendship.

Campbell's illustrations have a lot of charm. show more This is not your typical graphic novel. show less

I guess this book will help the author get ahead in the literary category of adult humor. It fell short for me. The illustrations were nice but frankly I didn't get the humor. Hopefully, others did find it clever. I'm guessing it was pointing out certain behaviors in life that often provide a laugh like getting a haircut you don't like or having a picture you are not crazy about hung on a wall that belongs to you. I'd say this book is clever but not for everyone.
A young boy who absolutely loves to hug everyone and everything he encounters chronicles his hugging adventures in this amusing picture-book from author/artist Scott Campbell. "I am the Hug Machine," he declares at the beginning of the book, going on to describes the many different people and objects he has embraced. At the end of a long day of hugging, the boy is quite tired - but not too tired to be hugged himself!

Although not particularly strong as a story - really, it's more a string of show more hugs, represented in both textual and visual form - The Hug Machine is a picture-book with charm, particularly for children (or their parents) who like to hug. Scott Campbell's artwork, done in watercolor, is quirky and amusing, particularly in its depiction of the reactions of many of the 'Hug Machine's' victims (I mean recipients!). In some ways, this one reminded me of Nicholas Oldland's Big Bear Hug, another amusing picture-book about an over-eager hugger. Recommended to children who enjoy stories with a silly sense of humor, or who love to hug themselves. show less
