While this slim volume covers experiments that are described in many other places, I would say the completeness of the instructions and illustrations, and the grouping of these as backyard chemistry, is a plus. Good for home or camp use. Older elementary students can probably follow the instructions themselves or with help. Experiments include: Mento/Soda geysers, Ice Cube Fishing, baking soda/vinegar exploding ziplock bag, giant bubbles, soap powered boat, growing, crystals (epsom salt), show more watercolor ice melts, make your own bricks, chalk rockets (gives candy tubes as an alternative to the now-rare film canisters!), oobleck, cornstarch-based bouncy ball. Each experiment includes "you will need" and "what's happening" sections. show less
Directed to middle-school children, but would be neat to share with littles or fine for a beginning teen or adult. I particularly appreciate that the boys look like they're into it, not just actors. Glossary and suggested resources are included.
Sunshine, Hurricanes, Blizzards, and Rainbows: Weather Science (Accidental Genius: Science Puzzles for Clever Kids) by Alix Wood
Great learning tool!
Written, designed, and illustrated by Alix Wood.
The instructions and other illustrations are delightful!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age, great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your public library (permission granted in print for users to photocopy for clients)!
I requested and received a temporary electronic copy on Adobe Digital Editions from Rosen Publishing Group/Windmill Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

An aesthetically pleasing and informative book. This would be one of the first ones I'd pick up to teach my child about renaissance art.
