To be honest, I spent most of my time in this book on the pictures, and only skimmed over the text. The pictures probably get 4 or 4 1/2 stars. This was not the selection of his works that I would have chosen. The text only about 2 stars.
Classic textbook that covers major European and American painting movements and painters. It's probably dated by now.
Catalog of an exhibition held at Kunsthalle Basel, 24 Oct.-22 Nov. 1964.
The precursor to the eponymous volume, which is in color and therefore is far more useful in terms of theory about art!
