How to Make Slime by Lori Shores is an instructional science text that teaches young readers how to create their own slime. The book has very large and colorful images that keep the reader engaged while making the directions easy to follow without even having to read the words. It also has very large font that clearly describes each step to correctly construct the slime. The book also motivated children to think critically about why the slime reacts the way it does. The texts includes show more questions like "what happens when..." and "Why does this happen" that push the reader to think critically about the relationship between the cornstarch and the water. Another thing I really loved about the text was the glossary. It opens readers up to scientific terms like solid, liquid, and surface. This helps children broaden their vocabulary while having a hands on example of what these words represent in real life in their slime. The book is a great tool to open up early elementary school learners to making hypothesis', experimenting, and making conclusions. show less

The students can learn sequencing through the book seeing what they do first second next and finally. The students can even rewrite the book into their own words so they can follow their own written steps when making the slime. The students love the slime. It's messy, hands-on and show more a great time. This also brings science into reading as you can discuss what chemical reaction is occurring to create the slime. show less

This book is great for teaching sequencing of events. It has detailed steps on how to make slime as well as pictures. The activity of making slime could be incorporated after the book is read and students can recall the steps in order to show that they understand sequencing of events.
