The sphere and the labyrinth : avant-gardes and architecture from Piranesi to the 1970s by Manfredo Tafuri
Translation into english in 1987 of one of the most influential critical histories of modernism, published in Italian in 1980.
Some of the text were already published earlier in Oppositions. But this series of related but not interrelated chapters about issues of modernity from Piranesi to OMA an Rossi is fun to reread although the political motivation of this form of critical history seems so lon ago.
