While this looks like a self-help book, for me the more interesting parts are Feldman's discussions of the social and biological impulses that lead to lying, the role it plays in human societies and why it is a universal "vice." He brings in classic studies and also very recent research in a readable way.
Even though it was too long, and contained a lot of unnecessary rambling, I still enjoyed it. The amount of research that went into it is impressive, and it was very well presented. It had some really interesting facts, and overall, it was a pretty informative read.
Was a very well put together book on basic Psychology. Though a little on the dry side was well worth the read for my Psych class.
This was a required textbook for an introductory college course. This was a preparatory class I was enrolled in for my bachelor's degree. The class was "Skills for Success" and used the strategies in this book to prepare students. The textbook also has "try it" exercises and journal reflections for students to self-evaluate and to keep track of progress made.
POWER: Prepare, Organize, Work, Evaluate, Re-think.
The strategies in this book are covered in three parts:
#1.) Getting Started
#2.) show more Using P.O.W.E.R for Academic Success
#3.) Life Beyond the Classroom
Part one covers how to become a successful student; making the most of your time; recognizing how you learn, who you are, and what you value.
Part two discusses how to take notes; steps for taking tests; building reading skills; writing and speaking; memory; choosing a course and major; along with technology and information competency.
Part three covers how to make good decisions; diversity and relationships with others; money matters; stress, health, and wellness.
While these things seem academic, the textbook can be an invaluable tool to help some prioritize as well as see their strengths and weaknesses. show less
