I expected a book about decorating in cottage "style" but no, this is the real thing. Real cottages older than the country I live in. Maybe there are Habitant cottages from the 18th century up in the Laurentian hills somewhere, but the well-worn details of these ancient English cottages are not the sort of thing we see very often in Canada. The book is extremely high in interest and, for most of us on this side of the Atlantic, rather low in practicality. Still love it though.

I might not have read this book had I known that an alternative title is "Perfect Order" just on philisophical grounds. Hilliard does interior design, and this book has some good thoughts on storage.
