Split into 4 main chapters: the story of antique perennials, the written history of flowers, a history of perennial gardening styles, a portfolio of antique perennials (short A-Z).
Presented in a very chatty style, lots of useful info in the A-Z and stories of how plants were found, discovered or rediscovered and preserved. Also plenty of full page and thumbnail photos for illustration.

I love this book because it gives valuable information, is entertainingly written, stays right on point throughout, and I love herbs. I read it through my local library, but plan to buy it because container gardening is better for many reasons, in my opinion, (see Bountiful Container by McGee and Stuckey) than in-ground growing.
Country Flowers gives the reader a glance into the history of the plants that many of us have come to take for granted. This is not the usual how-to-grow book of flowers. If that is what you are looking for , look elsewhere. This books does provide excellent sources if you are interested in acquiring the plants.
