Giant Children is a hilarious book of poems about school aged children. The poems include topics about class pets, stage fright during a school play, stinky boys and boogers. The simple rhymes written by Brod Bagert along with the humorous illustrations by Tedd Arnold combine to create an engaging romp through common childhood experiences. This is a frequently requested book of poetry in my elementary school library. I highly recommend!
I had just read this book because Brod lives down the street from me, and I thought of it when we the class read My Name is Mina. Brod's powerful depiction of middle school girls and boys is so believable. He humorously captures the cares and quandaries that plague youths in puberty.

Let kids read these poems aloud. Enjoy the laughs. Bridget the generation gap. Repeat.
This book of poetry features 21 fun, up beat poems that young children will love. They are poems that are meant to be interactive with hand clapping, feet stomping and movement. The very first poem sets the tone for the rest with the title "Shout." The last lines say it best, "Shout it! Shout it! POETRY! Fun for you and fun for me."

I personally really liked the overall tone of this book. It is lively and I think little ones would really appreciate the humor and look forward to playing a show more part in them. They are very simple, with "kid- language" that relates to them on a personal level. They send a positive school message with topics on the library, snack time, taking turns and more. I read a couple of these to my six-year old and he really enjoyed them.

I would like to use this in the classroom before we actually began some of the activities like library time and stressing the importance of taking turns. I think these could be easily incorporated into some of the more mundane things like lining-up for different activities. How fun and more importantly, enriching, would it be for the children to recite some of these funny and humorous poems that have a positive message.

Giant Children is a collection of witty, rhyming poems. The subjects are very relatable and kid friendly, including stinky diapers, boogers, and letters to the tooth fairy. The illustrations have Tedd Arnold's signature look of big googly eyes and scribble texture. The fun cartoon feel of the illustrations enhances the sarcastic humor of the poetry.
