This book is interesting and useful so far, if only for the synopses of object-relational theorists: Klein, Fairbairn, Mahler, Kohut and Kernberg. I doubt I'll ever understand fully psychoanalytic theory, but book like this, in which the author tries to ground the theory in a basis of therapeutic examples, are interesting, and probably much more helpful than reading theoretical works alone. I've been reading parts of Melanie Klein, (Envy and Gratitude) and it's heavy going. Once I read it, I show more can bearly make heads or tails of what she's saying. From that perspective, I'd rather read a book like this one. show less

Un buen libro para saber más sobre los cuentos de hadas y sus significados. Gracias a él he recordado cómo me gustaba Madre Nieve de pequeña, y cómo este y otro cuento sobre la constancia eran mis preferidos.
La razón por la que le he dado las tres estrellas es a causa de las erratas del libro de esta versión, que se podían haber corregido fácilmente.
En conclusión, espero que se reedite (y se actualice) algún día.

This wasn't for me. I was looking more for the cultural aspects of the fairy tales in question. What I got was someone using fairy tales to prop up their psychological thesis on how fairy tales influence our lives. Didn't finish the book, but after I skimmed the section on The Wizard of Oz and realized there was nothing in there about how the story was an allegory I knew that I wasn't going to get anything about the cultural aspects of the fairy tales at all.
