The Amazon blurb imagines this as "Fried Green Tomatoes" with murder. I see it as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" especially the musical version. Bonita Faye is a forthright, can-do kind of girl and she will murder you if you a need it. Cue the orchestra.
Some readers will want more gravitas and plausibility, but never you mind. Just enjoy "Bonita Faye" as humorous fiction for a sunny summer read. And watch out for poison ivy!
"Bonita Faye" is one of the older titles Brash Books is reissuing in show more digital form. It was originally published in 1997 by Three Forks Press and was a finalist for an Edgar award.

I purchased this off BookBub because the premise sounded like a fun, lose yourself, easy read. The southern voice of the protagonist makes for a quirky, sometimes funny, entertaining story. One you can just breeze through and enjoy. There are many typos and I found it annoying so this did bring down my over all enjoyment. (Do they not have proof readers any longer?) Overall I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light hearted murder mystery.
Bonita Faye is a very remarkable character. When her life begins, her prospects for a successful and happy life seem slim, at best. But despite life's very serious set-backs, Bonita Faye keeps trudging forward. Margaret Moseley has done a wonderful job of providing a somewhat twisted, classic, detective mystery. This is a very enjoyable novel.
Bonita Faye is an Oklahoman country girl with dreams of having a better life and some day going to Paris.
Something happens to her husband and a sympathetic Oklahoma State Trooper befriends her.
Eventually, with his compassion and Bonita's admiration and growing affection for him, they have a romantic relationship and Bonita feels her goals of a better life are beginning to take hold.
Years later, Bonita gets her chance to go to France and meets someone there who she feels is another wonderful show more friend. She meets the man's family and they make her feel as part of their family group.
The description of small town life is well done as is the way Bonita goes about achieving her goals and meeting and overcoming obstacles.
The story has many excellent features from suspense, humor, excellent dialogue and well done scene descriptions that can make the reader feel as if they are seeing the action before them. show less
