Elise and Lester have always had a rocky relationship since childhood. Now he is back taking over the running of his grandfather's business. They seem to pick up their antagonistic relationship. And why is Lester fixing Elise up with another man?
This is a dark romance. Elise is a loner but she has a secret as it seems Lester does also. This is also dated but I felt myself settle into Elise's shoes and could feel the pressure of keeping her secret and the anger she felt when Lester and her show more brother seem to insult and hurt her with every word from their mouths. I can also understand Elise's cruelty at times. Their dad makes cryptic remarks that as an outsider I could understand but Elise could not. In the end it all works out. show less

Do you think I need a shelf for stupid and/or unclear plot? this book would fit right there. Who would do the stuff this hero does to a 16 or so year old girl? Is the time line wonky or did he really follow a teenager he had only met one time into her bedroom after necking with her sister in the hall and then proceed to smirkily inform her that he knew she wanted him. He's a visiting professor at some college. Eww.
Besides that sort of thing, there were too many flashbacks and those show more flashbacks only dropped hints of the whole situation. I'm spending too much time going WTF is happening.
And the hero was an arrogant ass and a weak wimp who played games. Just no.
Does anyone want this book? 'Cuz it's free to a good home or even an abusive one, I just don't care. ;-) show less

When Carina fell in love with Marcus de Verrier, the man who was grooming her voice for stardom, his reaction was predictable. "Many students fall in love with their teachers. It's nothing unusual. An occupational hazard, in fact. But I prefer to call it infatuation, which will pass with time."
How could she make him realize this just wasn't true?

This might have been the first romance novel I ever read. I have yet to forget it, even though I've since learned that the formula is extremely repetitive with Harlequin books.
