I've loved this book since I first saw a friend's copy, new, in 1973. It's just what it's name implies.. people building their own homes, mostly out of found material, mostly in out of the way, hidden places. I have to assume that at least half of these houses were built illegally in National Forests and have long been rooted out and burned down. Mores the pity, because almost every one of these homes is a gem in one way or another.. no two even close to being alike. This is where the Flower show more Children of Camelot lived. Lots of excellent photography. show less
one of my favorite books ever. be warned, this guide is all pics and practically no words, but it *will* be one of the more inspiring books you've ever seen on beautiful quirky little wooden homes. it's amazing.
I owned and loved Boericke's Woodbutcher's Art book in the 80's. It was the better of the two, but this has some nice ideas and photos too.
Almost as good as I remember it from the 70s. The wood craftsmanship continues to appeal.
