This was one of my favorites of the books my mother found for me at expat moving sales when I was a kid. It's surprising how much of it I remember: Marco, a New Orleans kid, and his kissing cousin (ew!) Lily are staying with their Aunt Hazel in a creepy old house. Their exclamation of choice is "Gungah!" The villain, Dr. Slade, announces himself right off the bat by punctuating his speech with knocks on a table: "The wolf (knock) is always (knock) at (knock, knock) the door." The mystery show more involves ghostly voices coming through a system of speaking tubes, originally installed for giving orders to servants (ahem), telling Aunt Hazel the house is cursed and she'd better sell while she can. Oh, and there's a black cat for people who like that sort of thing. My copy is long gone and I have no way of rereading this but I'm guessing it would hold up. show less
Set in 1990, THE CREEP is definitely not for the faint hearted. It is a spell-binding thriller about a ruthless and cold blooded killer.Exclusively on Amazon Kindle! The Creep by John T Foster Get The Creep online: UK: www.TheCreepOnKindle.co.uk USA: www.TheCreepOnKindle.com
