NCLA Review: Many Christian parents grieve over their unbelieving adult children. “Why?” we agonize. “Where did we go wrong?” Rob Rienow realizes that even the best parenting cannot ensure our children will become Christians, but he suggests countercultural practices that increase the possibility. Though I consider some of those ideas unrealistic, they offer hope and guidance to younger parents. More pertinent, I felt, is his emphasis on establishing a good relationship with adult show more children who are hostile to their parents’ religion. He offers dialogue scripts that seemed unnatural, but might come across better when personalized with more than the insertion of the child’s name. Rienow writes with a fundamentalist’s perspective and terminology. Yet I think any troubled parent can take courage from his conviction that one should never fully write off an erring child. Evidence abounds of conversions following years of rejection. It’s a good book for a church library. Rating: 3 —DKW show less
