Polymer Clay and Mixed Media-- Together at Last: Incorporating Craft Materials and Found Objects in Clay Figures by Christi Friesen
This is the best-written all-around book on polymer clay I have found. It not only covers a wide variety of basic and advanced techniques, it also explains why they are done a certain way, allowing you to better apply and adapt the skills to your own designs. And many of the projects are very impressive while still being accessible to a variety of skill-levels. The mixed-media techniques which are the focus of the book are clever, though not revolutionary, and should get you thinking.
I love this book! It is the first in a series of sculptural books by the author. Teaches you how to create whimsical dragon figures that you can use as beads or small sculpture. I went into this having ZERO sculptural skill and have made several beautiful pieces (one such piece having been bought right out of my hands no sooner had I shown the piece to my co-workers!). Highly recommended book, the techniques taught can be used in a myriad of applications in polymer and precious metal clays.
Helpful, pictures are great!
