What a fun book! I love arts and crafts and this was a fun throwback to when kids actually MADE stuff with their own two hands. I liked how there were featured artists who can inspire us and how their ideas can be made new and current. I think every kid would enjoy making one or two of these projects. I made the zine book already and realized that I had done these before. I am old, so I forget what I know sometimes! I tried out the paper Light Cubes just for fun because I like origami and I show more have a friend who does too. I would love to try the chip clip hanging art and the weaving for the notebook cover. Okay, maybe this is fun for old big kids too! show less
This was a delightful RSD (Record Store Day) find - it contains a 7" EP. However, while the tunes were the hook, the book is the catchy chorus. Oldham did an excellent job blending together excerpts from 8 hours of current interviews with interviews with Joan going back to the 80s. Rich in photographs and quips from Jett about her videos, this book covers from The Runaways to today.
A lot of decent food for thought, although rather cheap and trashy when compared to upcycling DIY, since most of these projects still require the consumption of new projects. I also have to wonder how durable some of this stuff is...
I also thought the instructions were rather vague, especially when it came to explaining why things work/what specific materials you would need. I also thought the page layout was overly cluttered.
This is one of the best craft books I've ever read! The ideas are easy, inexpensive, and not geared too young. Great information about artistic techniques and various modern artists. I couldn't enjoy this book more!
