As a father of six kids, I’m constantly on the look out for another Bible story book. "The Candle Classic Bible" from Candle Books (distributed in the US by Kregel) is a fine addition to my collection. This kids’ book has the look and feel of a leather bound, weather-worn classic. It is beautifully illustrated and has a gold sheen on each page. The stories are short but follow the Scripture account well. And the volume comes complete with a ribbon and a full color illustration on the show more front.

Some kids Bible story books are given to fancy and invention. Others seem to trivialize the text. This has the right blend of contextualizing the story for kids but staying true to the text. I appreciated that several of the less common stories made their way into this collection. It is divided into 365 stories, but I felt that much of the time the story would span two or even three of the daily readings. The Scripture references are included for each story which will invite the family to open up the real Bible and read the fuller account.

The size of the book and its heft–it weighs in at nearly two pounds–will allow this book to endure the frequent use its colorful pages will invite. It is bound to be a family favorite, and I would be glad to see it end up on the shelves of Christians everywhere.

The Candle Classic Bible is a beautifully illustrated companion Bible. It is for eight and above. Why? I did read this to my six and eight and ten year old boys, but had to leave out some of the killing, yes I know that is what really happened, but it is hard to put little ones to bed with it.
Now our ten year old is perfect for this, it is a wonderful way to share family time and bible reading. It is set up for a years worth of Bible stories for 365 days.
What a wonderful addition to our show more library, and will be well used here. Once we start reading, we rarely stop at one story. They want more! It is written for them, and love that they we are sharing God's words with them.
Thank you Kregel for my copy of this treasured book, it is a keeper, and will be well used.

I've been using the Candle Classics Bible with Connor this summer and he has really enjoyed the stories in the Bible. The stories are really short (only a few paragraphs long) and ideal for the older toddler to mid preschooler age. Connor could of easily listened to much longer stories. The pictures are large and fun to look at since they are very detailed, colorful and interesting.

My goal this summer was to start reading a story a day and while we didn't quite meet that goal many of the show more stories interested Connor enough to learn more and ask questions. Usually I was able to read 2-3 stories at a time with him and he always enjoyed reading them. This would be a great addition to family readings after dinner or if you are trying to start up a family devotions tradition.

Disclaimer: I was offered a copy of The Candle Classic Bible to read and review on CCB. I was not required to have a positive review and no $$ exchanged hands. Thanks for reading CCB.

Colorfully illustrated, 365 short stories that tell the whole Bible that can be spent as family time. Very unique in it's own way. Easy to read and wonderful for children alone as well.
