Blech. So very disappointed in this book. The blurbs on the back compared it to Erica Jong. No.
I don't know what the author's intent was for this book. It was silly and frankly seemed mean-spirited. I think it was meant to be a farce. But it wasn't funny enough. The author herself was a bellydancer and her descriptions of the dance make it seem silly. The feminism in the book is heavy handed. All the men except one at the end are all horrible people or in the case of the transvestite just show more shown as weird.
Hippies are put down. It seems that everyone is put down. In putting down everyone, I don't know what the author's point is. The main character who discovers bellydancing after a divorce and suicide attempt seems laughable too as she tries to turn everyone on to the great earth mother.
As a bellydyancer myself, I expected so much more from this book. I cannot recommend this to anyone. It's bad on so many levels. show less

Women On War: Essential Voices for the Nuclear Age From a Brilliant International Assembly by Daniella Gioseffi
An anthology of notable women's voices -- past and contemporary-- from all over the world raising their voices on war. "The emotional power and political significance of each selection contributes to a collective message of spiritual strength and moral clarity, and a vision of hope int he crisis of the modern world."
Daniela Gioseffi proselytizes something she has dubbed "earth dancing", which is essentially Oriental dance (belly dancing) done for the purpose of celebrating the female anatomy and the great Earth Mother Goddess.
