Novelas como "The Green Planet" (1961) o "The Flying Eyes" (1962) fusionan thriller político con especulación, prefigurando a Philip K. Dick.

Interesante.

*Joan* Hunter Holly died at 50 and often wrote under gender-free names. I grabbed this from the newly open stacks of the university library, and even though I don't have high hopes that I'll love it, I must try, as maybe Holly is a hidden gem.

McCaffrey's story is sentimental, superficial, and unsatisfying, and almost half the book. Love of parent & child, and between adult siblings, not romantic love.

Holly's is wonderful investigation of that a clone of someone with Total PSI might be show more like, and how the two would relate. It got a titch wordy in the middle, but I do indeed want to read more by her.

Carver's doesn't work at all imo. One could make an argument that it's a literary metaphor, but, ah, no.

20,000 people have vanished from the Earth and all clues point to Earth’s isolationist alien trading partners on the planet Riga. Earth’s top investigator is sent to Riga to team-up with their top investigator to uncover the truth.

The central mystery here is pretty much a secondary focus of the book as it isn’t that complex, is fairly obvious who the culprit is, and the resolution just sort of peters out.

Most of the effort is the world building and sociology of how a society of beings show more who can control each other’s minds is built and functions. It’s very well thought out and raises some interesting moral questions around the effectiveness of legal limitations. show less
This is my second book by J. Hunter Holly (Joan C. Holly). The first was "The Green Planet" which I struggled through. Despite that first book I stumbled across this one in an English book shop and decided to give her another try.

This was a much more enjoyable book. It deals with the fight to stop an intelligent and powerful alien who knows you but does not fear you. Though written in 1959 the story still works today.

"The Green Planet was "two Stars" for below average but this one is easily show more 3.5.

I'll try other works by this author.
