Retelling: This book includes a photographic journey through the complete or incomplete metamorphosis of various insects such as the Hickory Horned Devil, Monsquitoes, Braconid, and Dragonflies. Great science vocabulary like larva, pupa, chrysalis, exoskeleton, and nymph are paired with concrete visual examples. The only thing missing is the smell of pheromone.
Thoughts and Feelings: The observations that people make about living things are often applied to non-living things that improve our show more quality of life (e.g. the eardrum and speakers). I wonder how you could transform the concept of metamorphosis into some splendid innovation, or maybe you could use this knowledge to protect ecosystems. show less

Genre: Nonfiction
Reading level: grades 4-5
Summary:
Metamorphosis is explained very well in this book. The book is separated into two large sections, incomplete and complete metamorphosis. Then it presents the information about how the changes happen, then goes into further detail, explaining how some individual insects go through their metamorphosis.
Commentary:
This book is another great book that can help with the understanding of the changing that a butterfly goes through. Instead of show more having drawn illustrations, the book contains actual photographs that are really neat and would catch any readers’ eye. show less

"Eater's Choice" is a book filled with tips on how to lower your cholesterol. It has chapters describing what cholesterol is and how to lower it; how your heart works; making the right choices; other risks for coronary heart disease; ensuring a balanced diet; and cholesterol guidelines for tots to teens. The book also includes one week of meal plans; recipes; and food tables that contain both saturated fat calories and total fat calories for a wide variety of foods and products. There is show more also a section that tells you what food items you should always have in stock. The back of the book has Appendixes that explain how to keep a food record; explanatory notes for guidelines; a glossary; and a table of equivalent measures.
"Eater's Choice" is a good book for people who want to lower their cholesterol through diet. The book is evenly divided between information on cholesterol, health tips, recipes, and the food tables. The main goal of the book is to help readers lower their cholesterol and their risk of heart disease. Until I read the book I thought the only way to lower cholesterol was by eliminating cholesterol in my diet but "Eater's Choice" focuses on eliminating fats and saturated fat from your diet and not the cholesterol content of foods you eat. My copy was last updated in 1999 and I could not find a newer edition. The book could use a further update since the food labels they show as illustrations do not include trans fats.
While I found the entire book to be interesting, I found the recipes in the book as well as the food table to be the most useful. But, while I want to lower my cholesterol, I'm not convinced that diet is the way to go since other members of my family eat the same meals I do and do not have high cholesterol. Nor am I all that good about following a good plan. Still, "Eater's Choice" gave me several pointers and is a good first step towards lowering cholesterol. show less
