The book does have limitations. It's dated now, more than a quarter century after it was first written; however, many of the games, activities, and initiatives remain relevant, and most of the rest can be easily adapted. Some of the games and activities are limited theologically to conservative or orthodox Christians of a generation ago; however, even these activities are sometimes adaptable for religious liberals or non-Christians.

The book show more is based on a five-stage model of group dynamics, and this is perhaps its most useful feature. I have found this five-stage model -- the five stages are bonding, opening up, affirming, stretching, and (ultimately) deeper sharing and goal-setting -- to be useful in everything from youth groups, to sexuality education, to adult support groups.
