Tortillitas para Mamá and Other Nursery Rhymes (Bilingual Edition in Spanish and English) by Margot C. Griego
Cooney's art, warm & bright but otherwise much like her classics like [b:Miss Rumphius|334818|Miss Rumphius|Barbara Cooney|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1281468926s/334818.jpg|929936] and [b:Chanticleer and the Fox|142033|Chanticleer and the Fox|Geoffrey Chaucer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1386920782s/142033.jpg|25542572], is the highlight of the collection. I also like the design, as the book is small enough for smaller hands and cozy laps, with pages that are full of things to show more look at but uncluttered. And of course any good bilingual book deserves consideration by any library or school.
The rhymes themselves mostly leave me cold. Several do include finger-play, and when my children were young we did love "Here's the Church.." and "Patty-Cake" etc. So there is that appeal. Otoh, one poem even has a child being in a fear of being beaten. But... if you want a Spanish-American version of "This little piggy went to market" I do highly recommend the two verses of "Finding an Egg" aka "Hallando un Huevo." show less

This book would be good for teaching ELLs because it offers text in both English and Spanish. These are nursey rhymes that show something special about their own culture.
