New babies may seem like they can't do much, but My Baby & Me will convince any child that his new sibling can be great delight! With simple text,

You can crawl?
Watch me go. I go fast -
You go slow!
...

I can read.
Here's my book.
I can show you.
Look, look, look!

older siblings can see the joy of having a younger brother or sister. Side-by-side with building blocks, bottles, sipper cups, car seats, and blocks, siblings are depicted spending time with each other.

The photographs by Penny Gentieu are show more superb! Each double-page spread has a single color background that does not detract from the photos of brother/sister, sister/sister and brother/brother combinations. Photos show children with diverse racial backgrounds, and the they patiently and soothingly depict the reality of having an infant sibling. There are no forced poses or smiles. These are photos of earnest infants looking, laughing. and pondering with an older sibling - and no insinuation that they can do much more. And yet, My Baby & Me is able to convey the loving bond between very young children and new siblings. show less

Lynn Reiser writes a wonderful picture story about the differences between sibling. Primarily the differences between infants and young children. The illustrations in the book are excellent diverse pictures of children from many different cultures. The language is simple and allows the children to follow along and join in to feel connected to the story. It is a great book to show preschool age child especially if some of them are having younger siblings joining the family. It empowers show more children by showing what they can do to help infant or a younger sibling or friend and that both are important in the dynamic of the family. show less
I had mixed feelings about this book. I liked it because the dogs and the hardworking humans were all very relatable. This made the book stand out tremendously to me. The illustrations also enhanced the story because they were colorful and went along with what the text was saying. On the other hand, I didn’t like this text because it was very repetitive which made the subtraction aspect of the book very easy. The subtraction was a huge part of the book, and it was the same thing the whole show more time: they subtracted 1 puppy each time. I would have liked if they made it a little harder subtraction wise. For example, the lifeguard could have taken 2 puppies. This would have made the kids subtract 2, instead of 1. I think the main idea of this book is subtraction. The book did a good job of visually showing (through the illustrations) subtraction, which was very helpful. show less
Told from the point of view of the older siblings in simple rhyme, this book explains to babies things that big kids can do, things that babies can do, and things the two of them can do together. Gentieu's vivid photography of children is mesmerizing to young readers and racially inclusive. It works for the big kids given voice in this book, but it also reads well to babies. Perfect for multi-age storytime. Look for a copy of their earlier book Look! Baby! in the illustrations of this book. show more I've had 3 year old students clamber to read that baby book because it was featured in this book, and therefore must be famous. show less
