This is a hilarious little send-up of field guides to birds and, though probably funnier for those with experience using field guides, is still accessible to everyone. In addition to very nicely rendered illustrations of such birds as the Mangrove Penguin (Tuxedo verdantus) and the Greater Noxious Grossbird (Incredibilus disgustus), the authors also include helpful charts showing the correct assembly of bird parts, nesting success of the Nearsighted Bat Owl (the news isn't good, I'm afraid), show more and the feather count of the Rear-Tailed Evader to name a few. show less
An imaginative "field guide" to some very rare birds indeed. Well-illustrated, and witty to the core.
A must-have field guide for any serious birdwatcher in North America. Contains discriptions and gorgeous watercolor paintings of some of the most interesting North American birds, which are often inexplicably left out of the standard guides, including the Manglove Penguin, Fixed-Wing Falcon, and Silhouette Warbler.
The third parody of birding and birders from these authors, the current volume is in the form of a birding magazine. It includes not only notes on seldom-seen birds, but also articles, ads, and editorials. Not a sleek as the previous two, but it's still pretty funny.
