Dave Garrett is called back in the firm he had to leave when he was disbarred. Not as a lawyer - he still suffers for the choice he had made but as a PI. And he realizes very fast that things had changed a lot for the short few years he was not there. And noone knows what he was supposed to investigate -- because the person that called him is dead.
The book follows the usual pattern for the series - Dave gets in trouble while investigating something, Dave gets in bed with someone he barely show more knows, Dave ends up in an even bigger mess. And somehow he still manages to work on the murder. Toss in some courtroom drama, some questionable characters and a lot of old secrets and that pretty much covers the narrative. The villain is almost clear early in the book and thankfully Albert decides against throwing a new person in the last minute (one of the reasons I read the series I think). I am not sure I like the reason for the murder though - it makes sense to some extent but for some reason it just does not work well. Dave picking up on it late was not a problem - this is how he operates.
Overall a decent addition to the series - not bad but nothing special either. At least Dave is somewhat likable. show less

The second in a projected 12-book series that features each month of the year in the title.
